At Stow and Go Storage, we’re passionate about providing mini-storage to all that need it in Greenville, NC. With our many years of experience, we know how daunting it can be once you have that empty storage space. You have questions like:

  • What do I put in first?
  • What precautions should I take?
  • What are the do’s and don’t’s?

With that in mind, here are 3 tips to get you started on your storage space.

1. Plan for Dampness

A damp floor can compromise many of the items you need to keep safe. Although we pride ourselves in having temperature and moisture controlled storage, it’s also important to be careful. Make sure to  place your storage items on 2×4 boards or on pallets to guard against dampness. This way, you know your items will be safe.

2. Be Smart About Furniture

Different furniture needs to be packed different ways. For  tables and chairs that have removable legs, break them down to save space. In addition, sofas and love seats can be stored more vertically to save floor space. To make sure they stay safe and clean, be sure to wrap cushions in plastic and place on top of furniture. For added storage, furniture with drawers can be used as storage places for pictures, knick-knacks, china, silverware, and other small items. If you’re storing anything fragile in these drawers, make sure to wrap them up nicely in table cloths or other soft goods.

3. Store Safely

There are some items that are better off not stored in mini-storage. Do not store anything COMBUSTIBLE. This means that stuff like paint thinner, gasoline, solvents, and paints are better off stored elsewhere. This means everything will stay safe and you’re not putting anything, or anyone, in harm’s way.
